Behind the Stitches of AB Christine

Jasmine Stubbs is a 24 year old fashion designer from Jackson Ms, who created a fashion line called “AB Christine”.  With her grandfather name being A B and her grandmother name being Christine, she was inspired to combine both of those names, birthing the fabulous fashion line “AB Christine”. Jasmine actually started sewing in 2011 and she perfected her craft and started designing clothes for others in 2013. She does have set designs for her line but she also custom designs,  making others visions come to life. I was looking for someone to design my dress for the The Juicy Expressions official event   ” A Taste of Juice” coming soon May 17, 2014.  A personal friend advised me to check out “AB Christine” designs. When I went on Jasmine Stubbs Instagram page I saw that she was the actual designer who designed the outfit for the gospel sensation ” Mary Mary’s” new solo artist Erica Campbell which eventually became the fit chosen for the album cover! I went to Jackson State University with Jasmine Stubbs so it was good to see someone who graduated from the College of Business with me making wonderful moves. Check out the interview I did with the designer of AB Christine fashion line below and let me know your thoughts!!!

Lupita Nyong’o People’s Most Beautiful Person 2014

1396615886_Lupita-by-Alexi-Lubomirski

Even if you haven’t tuned in to the latest media frenzy, you’ve seen or heard the name Lupita Nyong’o somewhere. Rather being awarded an Oscar for her iconic role in “12yrs a Slave” or gracing the cover of a magazine with her stunning wardrobe, the 31yr old Mexico born but Kenyan native, quick rise to fame is hard to miss! I remember watching the Arsenal Hall show  seeing her for my first time thinking who in the world is the GORGEOUS woman? I was so taken aback I swiftly grabbed my phone to try and Google who she was. Apparently I’m not the only one who had a similar reaction because this past Wed. People’s Magazine ranked her the World’s Most Beautiful Person! The sheer sight of a dark-skin, natural, short hair woman on the cover of a mainstream, pop culture magazine being crowned the world’s most beautiful person brought sincere tears to my eyes. Why? Well because being a woman of color it takes a toll on you to know your beauty is far from societies standard and is often portrayed as nothing more than a sex symbol. In the media, black women tend to fall into three categories the Mammy (a submissive, timid, maid type woman IE The Help), the Jezebel (sultry, sexual, vixen) or the Sapphire (hot tempered, angry every reality star woman!). Lupita speaks for the woman we hardly see; the classy, strong, vibrant, beautiful, talented and more, black woman! Lupita told People that the cover was a, “major, major compliment.” “I was happy for all the girls who would see me on [it] and feel a little more seen,” She went on to explain that when she was younger she thought beauty was “light skin and long, flowing, straight hair…subconsciously you start to appreciate those things more than what you possess.” It was this very thinking that caught the magazines eye, Cagle (the person in charge) said it was the “way she carries herself, with such grace…put her over the top” After seeing her do a speech at the Black Women of Hollywood luncheon about her praying she was light-skinned as a child because she felt ugly, he was compelled to showcase her beauty even stating on the “Today” show there really wasn’t any competition this year.

For me seeing someone who looks like the women I see everyday was empowering! I even went to purchase the magazine because I knew I was witnessing something iconic! If you don’t believe me I did some research on the list’s history, and not to my surprise Lupita is the first dark skin woman since the list began In 1990 to be awarded this title! She is the 3rd black woman following Beyonce 2012 and Halle Berry 2003. If this isn’t enough she also has made history signing a contract with Lancome Cosmetics making her their first black ambassador! Now before anyone goes jumping down my back I want it to be known that yes, I and I’m sure other black women are and were confident in our skin prior to this moment and no, we don’t need societies confirmation that we are in fact beautiful but one cannot deny the sheer joy that ignites in your soul to see that what we have known for centuries the rest of society is finally seeing as well.  So if you somehow managed to miss this beautiful face she’ll soon be on ad’s and commercials everywhere! So again, congratualtions from one sister to another we are proud of you for simply embracing being you!

Spring Trend Alert!

FINALLY, the time that we all have been waiting for since the end of summer last year, spring and warm weather! I have been hibernating to say the least, but the dull weather caused me to indulge into some retail therapy of course. I have a shoe issue, so as long as I have a cute shoe on I can be wearing a trash bag for all I care. That brings me towards two shoe trends that have been recycled time after time but revamped and modernized in Spring 2014.

The Peep Toe Booties:

Every shoe designer from Christian Louboutin, Giuseppe Zanotti, to Tom Ford has designed their version on the Peep toe booties. You can catch many of the world’s most fashionable and trendy celebrities stomping the pavement into Spring in a pair of Peep toe booties of their choice.

The Gladiator:

Ok, I am totally obsessed with gladiator sandals like never before. I will admit I was not interested in the gladiator sandal in the past because im a heel girl, but what could be more perfect for me than a gladiator heel! I will wear these all Spring and Summer paired with shorts, skirts, and dresses. Just google search “Gladiator sandals” and find the perfect style for you.

Started From the Bottom

New designer on the block Michael Costello is now here. I remember a few years ago watching this fella on Project Runway season 8 and Project Runway All-Stars. Back then I thought nothing of him, just another one of the many contestants competing for Project Runway. He did not win the competition but he won recognition and acknowledgement. Costello can now be seen designing gowns and garments for the biggest celebrities in the world. Visit his website at www.michaelcostellocouture.com

Ashley Hart Shoes

Last Friday I went to this Breast Cancer Awareness Event that was really interesting and moving. I met alot of new people there, one being this girl named Ashley Heart. Now if you haven’t heard about this girl as of now, DON’T WORRY cause you will in the near future. She is definitely going places.

Ashley Hart started designing shoes early spring of this year and was the only person EVER asked from Mississippi to participate in NewYork’s City Fashion Week 2011. Her shoe designs are the official sponsor for Steve Boi’s NYCFW Show. Her collection was presented in NYC at the Bryant Park Hotel on September 12, 2011. Lola Monroe wore a pair of Ashley Hart shoes at the 2011 BET Awards.

SO YOU’RE PROBABLY THINKING WHATS SO GOOD ABOUT HER SHOES? HOW DID SHE START THIS YEAR AND ALREADY ENDED UP IN NEWYORK FASHION WEEK 2011. WELL…….Ashley Hart custom paints and hand jewel her shoes. There is no machine that does this for her. Her shoes are strictly made out of love and that’s how I perceive them. It all started because one day she wanted to wear something new but didn’t have “new” in her closet so she innovated a pair of shoes that she had. That was super creative. One word to describe her shoes =DOPE!!!!! I was blessed with a free pair of her shoes and I cant wait till they’re in my possession. Her shoes are designed to express you, of course I love that concept….(Juicy Expressions lol) I vote Juicy for her shoes but what do ya’ll think? Juicy or Dry?
