What Do You “Crave” On Valentines Day?

For years I have driven past White Castles during the month of February seeing signs that stated  “Make your reservations immediately because Valentine’s Day is around the corner.” It never occurred to me what was going on or perhaps it did. However, I didn’t have the guts to wrap my mind around the idea that some darling and thoughtful man or woman would call white castles one sunny afternoon and say, “Hello I would like to make reservations for two for February 14th at 5 O’ Clock” please.”  When I think of white castles, I think of the late night burger joint that you can always depend on after you and a group of friends have gotten drunk off a bottle of Remy Martin V.S.O.P and need to cram something into your digestive system. With this thought in mind I had to do some research.

I decided to call White Castles and inquire about their Valentine’s Day reservations. Upon calling, a lady named Melissa answered the phone and revealed some shocking details about their event. Melissa explained that for the past six years, White Castle has offered a truly romantic experience. Me and my special someone can enjoy table service at our local White Castle, complete with decorations, table clothes and floral centerpieces. And this year they’re even offering free dessert! She went on to say that every couple would receive a photo available through the White Castle website and that dinner would begin at 5pm. I just couldn’t believe what I was hearing so I asked Melissa, “Do people actually participate in this?” She responded saying that  “We normally have a full house; in fact I’d hurry up and make my reservations if I were you because they fill up fast”. “No thanks” I said as I slowly hung up the phone.

With that being said, ladies and gentlemen I don’t care how much a person love those greasy and gassy burgers. I personally feel that it is unacceptable to take your mate to White Castles on Valentine’s Day. I would rather the person I’m with attempt to cook me a homemade meal to show they care. Perhaps I’m being bourgeois and need to get my nose out the clouds. Maybe I need to grasp the realization that staring into your mates eyes as you two share a couple of cheese burger sliders and chicken rings is someone’s idea of a romantic evening. Can you all please squeeze the juice out of this one for me? Would it ever be acceptable for your mate to take you to White Castles on Valentine’s Day?

NAACP Image Awards Fashion

The 46th NAACP Image Awards was held last Friday February 6. Usually with red carpet events a Best and Worst dressed list is used. I searched through the NAACP Image Awards pictures and I noticed that everyone looked great! Maybe I am being biased but my people showed up and showed out. The nakedness and crazy costumes were replaced with grace, poise, and elegance. The women were serving and the mens suits were tailored for the gawds. David Oyelowo, Taraji P. Henson, Beyonce, and Iyanla Vanzant, were just a few of the Image Award winners for the night. Below are some of my fashion favorites that stuck out to me. Comment below if you think that someone else fashion was a “fav” of the night.

Happy Birthday to The Juicy Expressions

I am so blessed and thankful for The Juicy Expressions reaching one years old today! Unlike most bloggers, blogging is only a percentage of what I do in my life so at times it can be tough to manage. I am also a mother and a first year law student that is developing personal businesses at the same time. Although this is a lot I am equally passionate about every single thing that I pursue.

Since the re-launch on Jan 29, 2014 I  have been extremely  busy managing my different hats but I have done my best to stay consistent with my posts. I would like to thank everyone who has supported my vision since day one because it really means a lot to me. I thank my team for contributing with promotion, writing blog posts, and etc.. Thank you juicy readers for your comments! It warms my heart when I see new people commenting on the blog or when I go out in public people tell me how they love the blog. I appreciate the support and The Juicy Expressions will continue to grow and interact with more dope people doing dope things. Remember I believe in those who believe in themselves so if you have something dope going on hit us up so we can blog about you. Love you all

Jackson Hip Hop Awards

Over the four day weekend, I attended the Jackson Hip Hop Awards at the Alamo Theatre downtown in Jackson, Mississippi. This was a well anticipated event but some say curiosity killed the cat! The event was geared to recognize and expose some of the underground artists here in Jackson. Outside the event were a lot of photographers and videographers from the press getting footage on this event. The event was scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm but the doors did not open until 90 minutes later due to technical difficulties.

I was still eager to see the show however, Dj Moneycure did not have the crowd turnt! I feel that if a crowd is already irritated the least the dj can do is change the energy by transitioning their mind off waiting to enjoying. Don’t get me wrong he was playing all of the songs that I enjoy by the artists I love including Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, and etc..but those aren’t going to do the trick at a Hip Hop Awards Show. I’ve heard a lot of good things about DJ Moneycure but this was my first time seeing him in action.

The show began with a lady greeting everyone on a microphone but we never saw her face the entire show. Also, continuously she would call people to the back of the stage on the microphone while the show was going on. I could tell that she was irritated because she had to keep interrupting the show but a better solution would be walkie talkies. After the show started the hosts did not come out to greet the crowd for a long period of time. I did enjoy their energy when they finally came and they were dressed nicely. The guy host (didn’t get his name) was funny at times and I felt that he dealt with the mistakes of the show well. After the girl host came out we didn’t see her come back out besides once or twice.

They attempted to play the cypher featuring various local hip hop artists that was pre-recorded weeks in advanced, on a projector but they were not able to fix the issue in time. So we watched the cypher on two small television screens but if you were sitting behind the first 5 rows you most likely would not have been able to see it. I think it would have been great and intense to see the cypher live instead of on the screen. But the whole idea of the cypher was dope and hopefully they will release it to the public for those who were not able to actually see it at the show. I enjoyed watching the live performances until some of the artists treated this event as if it was a concert instead of an award show by performing way to many songs. A lot of people were upset (including me) that they were not able to see the people who they came for perform. And since the event started so late we were not able to see majority of the show.

Now it may seem as if I’m being very critical of this event but everything above are FACTS. With that being said, I am still glad I attended the event. I am aware on how difficult it is to run an event for the first time. Although a lot of people disagree with me, I still think that the Jackson Hip Hop Awards is a great idea. I see the potential of how excellent it can be. I benefited from the event by coming across more artists that I’ve never met before, which gives me more interesting people to blog about. Also the creators of the show knew that this event was not perfect and made a public apology on their instagram page @Jackson_hiphopscene. I felt that it was a great heart felt apology and with better planning things will progress next year. I was always taught don’t complain unless you are willing to change things. I am willing to help improve the Jackson Hip Hop Awards so I will be volunteering my services to the people. Feel free to comment any suggestions that can improve this event for next year. What are the things that you did and did not like about the Jackson Hip Hop Awards? To see who all won awards go on the instagram page @Jackson_hiphopscene

Sexual Exposure to Youngins

I am aware that as we develop into the different stages of adolescence we naturally begin having urges and desires for sexual attention. This is a natural process that will most likely happen to every single person growing up. However, I feel that it is highly inappropriate for others to influence young people to engage in sexual activity before they express a personal interest physically or mentally. It is one thing to educate and inform the child on all the pro’s and con’s that come along with sex. But I feel that showing them pornography, taking them to a strip club, paying for them to receive sexual services and etc…is stripping the child away from their childhood. They have plenty of time to secure a sexual habit so there is no point in contaminating their mind before they are ready.

As we all know, sex comes with a lot of responsibilities in which children already have a hard time dealing with their normal daily duties. Now, I can not pinpoint the specific or right age that you should discuss sex with the  “youngin” because it varies. Be that as it may, you should not influence them to have sex when they were not initially interested. I personally know a lot of guys who started watching porn by or before the age of 10 because their big brother introduced them to it. While it is great to bond with your younger sibling, I’m sure there are more age appropriate ways to connect with them.

If you have a feeling that your youngin is engaging or interested in sex I do believe you should talk to them for the sake of education and safety. Because even if you ban them from having sex they will find a way to sneak and do it. SO BETTER BE SAFE THAN SORRY! Lil Wayne revealed years ago that Baby took him to receive oral sex from an unknown woman at age 11. Wayne stated that he was raped but also admits that he loved what happened to him. I feel that this experienced definitely exposed him to becoming sexual at an early age. Four years later at age 15 Wayne had his first child. Chris Brown lost his virginity at age 8 because he was influenced by his older family members. I can’t say for sure that these guys would have turned out differently if these events would not have occurred but there is a high possibility. Having sex too early could influence how you deal with sex for the rest of your life.

I am a mother of a son and if ANY MAN exposes my child to sex at an early age there will be some unimaginable consequences. I want my son to engage in sex when he naturally feels ready. The world already brings outside influences so there is no point in bringing more.  But hey that’s just how I feel. How old were you when you first began engaging in sexual activity? Were you influenced by others? Do you think that it is appropriate to influence young kids to have sex at an early age? Express it below!
