Why are you so mad if you’re not a LOOKIN A** N****?

Look at y’all lyin’ ass n*****, Talkin’ ’bout “It’s paid off” but it’s financed, lyin’ ass n****,Bunch of non-mogul ass n*****
,Frontin’ like they got a plan, Boost Mobile ass n****.” These lyrics are from Nicki Minaj’s  latest release “lookin ass-n****”. Although this rap song is only a couple of weeks old, it seems to have sparked a lot of controversy amongst African American men, who are now claiming that any woman who is feeling the lyrics of this song must be suffering from low self- esteem. I find this claim to be an understatement and a reflection of low self-esteem on men who feel this way. Rap music in general constantly degrades black women on a daily basis, one may even say that 50% of today’s rap music is built on the degradation of women. However vulgar lyrics and the representation of women as b***es and whores have never stopped men from bobbing their heads and in some cases even embracing this negative perception towards all women.

 With that being said, why does Nicki Minaj’s rap song have so many men upset? Are her lyrics hitting home? Or is Nicki viewed as one of those female rappers who are only allowed to degrade herself and encourage other women to do the same?  Simultaneously the female group TLC received this same negative backlash from men in the early 2000’s from their song “No Scrubs”. It seems that every time a female artist goes against the grain and speaks about the faults and flaws of our male counter parts men don’t know how to deal with it? Why is this? If you haven’t heard the song yet watch the video below and let me know the real reason behind these men comments.

Hollywood Luck Minus the Hollywood Attitude

Hollywood Luck

Some call him Hollywood Luck, most call him Mr. Pole Man, or if you really know him you may call him Duenta Butler.  Luck may have many names but he has many talents to go along with those names. He is not only a successful hard working rapper but he also produces, has his own clothing line, and edits his own videos for his vlogs. Besides his most popular songs “Pole in my Pants” ft. Treasure Tee, “Dance In That” ft. Doe Hicks and Flawless Da Rich Kid, “Salute the Swag”, “Get they B****es”, and “Feeling Myself” ft. K Kamp,  some other projects that he is known for are his mix-tapes including “Inside Man” released February 2011, “Sex Tape” released September 2011, “Inside Man 2-Heart One” released February 2012, Salute the Swag” released May 2012, “Durdy Sprite Remix” released November 2012, “Back 2 School” released Nov 2013, and “Salute the Swag 2” released November 2013. Luck is hardly home but always repping . {*in my drake voice} He released the Road to Rich Sh** DVD to showcase all the time, energy, and effort that plays into the background in making Hollywood Luck who he is today.  No matter where he travels for shows, he represents his hometown Jackson Mississippi. One of the things he wants to be known for is putting Jackson on the map. Luck has hit some great milestones throughout his career one of them includes working with one of his idols Pimp C before he passed away in 2007. It was a pleasure interviewing this humble driven artist because I’ve personally been following his music since 2011 when I was attending Jackson State University. Don’t let the name Hollywood scare you away, it means many things but it doesn’t describe his attitude! Check out his merchandise and to download some of his music go to www.1stupluck.bandcamp.com You can also get his music on iTunes by clicking the link —> Hollywood Luck Watch the interview I did with him below as well as his popular releases “Pole in my Pants” and ” Dance in That”. Tell me what you think! Do you think his music is Juicy or Dry? I vote Juicy!!! 🙂

Get Fly or Get Flown Over {Jet League Rising to The Top}

jet leagueI’ve been supporting the Jet League movement since 2010 when I was first made known of them by a close friend of mine. Jet League originally started with 4 members Beezi, Nitty Boy, J Mcfly, and Cam. The first song that I heard from them was “Ritcher Scale” and that song by itself caught my attention. It took one listen and I was hooked. I heard passion throughout their voices and I saw hunger in their eyes.  Unfortunately some of the members of Jet League parted ways due to personal circumstances leaving the remainder of Jet League to Kool Kid Beezi  and Killa Cam. This determined duo has been working hard giving their all and has made Jet League to what it is today. Mississippi natives but currently residing in Atlanta, Jet League’s fan base continues to grow all over.  Their songs are consistently being played in the hottest Atlanta clubs. It’s good to see that these men are living their dreams and I’m interested in seeing how far this jet will fly.  Check out the original song “Richter Scale” below and their video “Don’t Get Mad” that made it to World Star Hip-Hop. You can also get their latest project Pearl Harbor on itunes  by clicking the link—> Pearl Harbor . STL Hip-Hop Duo on the Come Up

I was first introduced to this dynamic hip-hop duo better known as Souls of Liberty, in 2011 by Team Flavor’s very own gorgeous grape. Ryan Escobar and Tenelle Donta are St.Louis natives(my hometown STAND UP) that are known for producing “Life Music.”  Currently they have 6 mixtapes “Just Listen”, ” Long locs and Nike Socs”, “One Soul At a Time”, “Best is Yet To Come”, “Carpe Diem” and “Brave New World”. Their new album “10,000 Hours” will be dropping soon but the release date is not revealed yet. My favorite song so far on the album is “Family” because it describes their personal grind and their loyalty to the ones that they care about most. I think we all can relate to this song…….well not all but those who really grind can. 🙂 Souls of Liberty are very humble but definitely determined. In 2013 they won the heatseeker’s contest and had the opportunity to open up for the rapper Wale in New York for the Gifted Release Show.Talk about dreams coming true! These guys are definitely ones to watch. Here’s a video on their NYC journey and the official video for the single “Family”.
