30 yr Old Man DIES Waiting in ER

30 year old man dies- pomp

Have you ever gone to the emergency room and sat there so long you felt like you were going to die? Well that’s exactly what happened to 30-year-old John Verrier at St. Barnabas hospital in New York on January 19, 2014. After waiting for hours in the Bronx hospital waiting room complaining about a rash at 10pm he was found dead in the chair by the security guard at 6:40am. What did the hospital have to say? Well according to New York’s WABC-TV when questioned an ER worker said, “There’s no policy in place to check the waiting room to see if people waiting to be seen are still there or still alive.” Hmmmm no policy to see if anyone is even still alive! Considering not only did Verrier die in the waiting room, the news reports he was dead hours before the guard found him. Makes you wonder how many other people have died while waiting to be seen for hours. The health care system has so many flaws, from insurance to malpractice but to go unnoticed to the point of death raises more flags than one. Is it the lack of staff, care for human health, or pure unprofessionalism? I think it may be a combination but one thing for sure next time you’re in the ER don’t let your pain go unnoticed.

  1. The hospitals definitely need more staff so that problems like these don’t get ignored! Also they could of had more compassions when speaking about his death. They’re too busy defending themselves instead of being sorry cause they should be!

  2. This is an example of neglect. This news is disturbing. It is the obligation of the staff to notice when people are in distress so why would it not be their responsibility to evaluate that someone has died? Piss poor healthcare. A better system needs to be in place to look at each person, take their vital signs, and place them in priority to be looked at by the doctor/ nurse practitioner.

  3. I am truly upset about this story. It is a combination of all of them. And the health care system wants people to trust in their practice, yet lives are lost because the symptoms are not severe enough. Shortage of staff has always been an excuse but what are the actions that are being put into place to eliminate the issue? Personally, he was waiting entirely too long to be seen. 2-3 hours at the most is typical but all night is unacceptable.

  4. This is crazy. This is just another example of how bad out health care system is. If you don’t have money or don’t live in the hills you get the down side of health care. That’s not right.

  5. I had a badd experience on a smaller scale at a hospital in Jackson, MS. I was terribly sick and in pain and they had me waiting for four hours in the freezing cold waiting room until I couldn’t take it any more and I left! I went to a physician and they took care of me. I know it doesn’t compare to a man losing his life but I can say that I believe this is possible in certain hospitals in the U.S.

    1. True! And you saved alot of money going to a physician! Its crazy how crappy the e.r. Care is yet it cost soooooo much!

  6. I believe they dont care about hueman nature our wellness & or well being!! I mean the spokesperson for the ER made it plain they follow “policy” and from what I have come to know as true policy & procedure arent interested in our well being they are mere, interested in how much money and energy they can suck us out of.
